It snowed again last night reminding me how much I dislike, no not strong enough, I hate winter. One of its only redeeming qualities is football and a fireplace. Too strong? Sorry, I grew up in winter wonderland and feel I have paid my dues. I'm all for Global Warming!!! Worse, my buddy called today to talk about fishing.....mean....cruel....dastardly!!! Rub it in Bobby!
Really, the only thing I appreciate about snow in my increasingly aged years, is the symbolism it holds in the Bible. It speaks of newness....clean, pure, newness. Get this one; "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow..." Cool! (The thought not the snow...snow is cold.)
One of the proofs of how bent we are as human beings can be seen in how pure we think we are. We won't place ourselves on the disgusting level of perverts or in the conscienceless state of a Texas chainsaw murder, but sin is the great playing field leveler. Big sin, small sin, rotten lie or white, it is all the same color.......SCARLET! Now, scarlet may be pretty in the right setting, but in this it can only mean the judgment of blood. My blood is demanded of a righteous God because my nature was bent and twisted by sin, let alone the millions I've committed.. A guy can't untwist his own bent nature so I'm left in BIG TROUBLE. I need to be made again. I need to look like snow.
In steps Jesus. He does look like snow. There is no sin. But what does he do? He let's his scarlot blood flow in my place. By an act of faith, my scarlot colored rottenness turns into the purity of newly fallen snow. Whew! What color is your inner man?
Kinda makes me appreciate snow a little more? How about you?
Shiverinly, Pastor Jim
